The 2010 Toyota Landcruiser Prado marks a point of distinction in the Prado range as it was the first major update after seven years. The body is longer and slightly lower to add to agility and handling, without sacrificing on luxury. There are 5 and 7-seater options, a new 3-door option, and and a sliding second row. New cars in the range have a $4,000 price increase for entry level cars meaning the lowest new car available is $55,990 and the top of line Kakadu TD comes out at $88,990.

Most buyers of the Toyota Landcruiser opt for the Turbodiesel engine, but the petrol actually tends to handle the slightly heavier update a bit more gracefully. The Landcruiser wasn’t designed so much for passing other cars on the highway, but more for navigating over rocky, rough terrain and taking passengers to new places off the beaten track. There is no specific variant that is objectively the best as it all depends on what kind of driver you are and what you intend for your adventures.

Take a look at the range of options in the 2010 range:

GX: This comes in either a 4×4 with a 3.0L Diesel engine and a 5-speed sequential automatic, or a 3.0L diesel with a 6-speed manual transmission. Used prices start at around $23,000 for private sales and go up to $35,000.

-GXL: This comes in 5-speed sequential automatic or 6-speed manual transmission with option for 4.0L ULP or 3.0L Diesel engine. Private sales for used Prado GXLs start around $20,000 and go up to roughly $43,000 AUD.

-Kakadu: This 4×4 comes only with a 5-speed sequential automatic transmission with either a ULP or Diesel engine. The used private sales start at $29,000 and go up to almost $50,000.

-SX: This 4×4 comes only with a 5-speed sequential automatic transmission and a 3.0L diesel engine. Used cars start in the low $30,000s and get up to $35,000 AUD.

-VX: This comes only in 5-speed sequential automatic in either 4.0L ULP or 3.0L Diesel engine. This variation goes for $28-45,000 used in private sales.

-ZR:This comes only as a 5-speed sequential automatic with a 3.0L diesel engine and goes for between $25,00-$31,000 AUD.

When buying or selling a Toyota Landcruiser it’s important to keep in mind that used prices vary greatly depending on odometer readings, extra features and general condition of the body and interior.

Odometer reads – 147587 kms, engine size 4, automatic transmission, seats 5, doors 5, 4X4 Drive, diesel engine.

It was bought in Brisbane , QLD 4520

Paid cash for the car, $8,500.

    Editions and Variants

The first ix35s rolled out in 2010 with three editions on the table including the active, the elite, and the Highlander. The SE wasn’t released until 2013. This mid-size SUV has been an all around good car that ticks most boxes for the average driver who spends most driving time in urban and suburban areas. The iX35 is fitted with either a 2.0L, a 2.4L, or a 2.0L CRDi variant engine and both petrol and diesel are available.

The entry-level Active edition is paired only with a 2.0L petrol engine, is Front-wheel-drive, and has the option for either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. It is the only edition that has a manual transmission available.

The Elite can be paired with any of the engines, including turbo-diesel, has the option for 6-speed automatic transmission only, and can be in Front-wheel-drive or All-wheel-drive.

The Highlander comes with either the 2.4L petrol engine or the 2.0 CRDi turbo-diesel, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive.

The SE that came out in 2013 can pair with the 2.0L petrol engine in FWD, or the turbo-diesel in AWD, both with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

    Engine Power and Torque

The 2.0L petrol engine makes 122kW and 197Nm, the 2.4 L petrol engine makes 130kW and 227 Nm, and the 2.0L CRDi turbo-diesel makes 135kW and 392 Nm. The petrol engines have 4 valves/aluminium cylinder, compression ratios of 10.5:1, and a continuously variable intake and exhaust valve timing. The Diesel engine also has four valves per aluminium cylinder, a compression ratio of 16.0:1, variable geometry turbocharger, a diesel particulate filter, and chain-driven double overhead camshafts.

    Features

The Hyundai iX35 is a popular car amongst families with ample leg room, a sliding back row of seats and easily accessed boot space. The 591 Litres of cargo room can expand up to 1436 Litres with the seats down making it a great vehicle for camping, moving, or transporting large items. Compared to previous models, the iX35 is slightly longer, wider, and lower, so it’s important to check for scuffs and scratches if a previous owner has done any off-road adventures. Spare parts are generally easily available in Australia. While you’re at it, check for any crunching sounds on shifting, or any delayed starting with a TD engine.

All editions of the iX35 received a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. The standard safety packages include airbags in the front, rear, side and curtain, Automatic Braking system, electronic stability control and brake force distribution, traction control, hill-start assist and downhill braking assist, pretensioners and load limiter seat belts, anti-submarining front seats and active seat head restraints.

Before the roll out of the 2011 range, some interesting updates were made including bluetooth connectivity, an electric power unit rather than hydraulic steering for reduced kickback, rear-parking sensors, darker privacy glass and an ASD system. The entry-level Active editions no longer included the power adjustable driver’s seats.

2010 kia Sorento – are you selling

    $8000

2010 kia Sorento – are you selling
Condition report: The car has no spare key, no sunroof or Sat Nav. Some stone chips on the bonnet and a few minor scratches around the drivers and passengers doors. Needs a full detail inside and out.
Odometer shows – 191628 kms, Engine size 4, Auto transmission, seats 7, doors 5, 4X4, Diesel engine.
It was bought in Brisbane QLD 4505
Paid $8,000 cash for the car.

The 2010 range of the Kia Sorento, launched in 2009, has a list of engine, axel and fuel variations that can be confusing to figure out at first glance. If you delve a bit deeper, you’ll see that Kia has already done the work of creating ensembles made for the best performance. The options you’ll find in this range include:

The choice of diesel engine comes with a 2.2 litre turbo-diesel, four cylinder requirement in all-wheel drive with the option for either a 6-speed manual or auto transmission. These cars make 145 kW and 422 Nm for manual, while auto transmissions get 436Nm of torque.

If you’re into petrol engines then you’re looking at the 2.4 litre front-wheel-drive with a required 6-speed automatic transmission (436 Nm torque as well).

While the power of the Sorento beats out several of its rivals in the SUV market, it still doesn’t quiet hit the same mark as the Discovery, Pajero or the Cherokee.

The 2010 range is also the most compact variation from it’s time to the current Sorento models yet it still has the option for third-row seating and is absolutely a spacious, family-style vehicle.

The brand new, drive-away prices in 2009 began at roughly $36,000 and went up to $49,190. Used models that are currently on the market for private sale go for anywhere from $8,000 to $21,000 depending on the engine, kilometres, service history, and overall condition.

These family friendly cars get a 5 star ANCAP safety rating (the highest possible) and it’s emissions and fuel economy have been improved since the time of its predecessors. Current economy is reported at 6.7 per hundred kilometres with a manual transmission, and 7.4 for automatic. The emissions report states emissions of 177g/km, a competitive rating for cars in its class.

If you’re selling another car and looking for a Kia Sorento, make sure to find out what the car was primarily used for. While the first generation Sorento’s were designed for off-roading, second generation models were simplified to accomodate the lives of parents carting kids to and from after-school activities. If the previous owner spent lots of time driving in the bush, overall wear and tear is likely to be a lot heavier. The engines on the Sorento have few reported problems if services have been carried out regularly. Since these particular engines make for a really quiet drive, if you hear any unusual noise then you may have some issues under the bonnet. In general, used Kia Sorento’s are regarded as reliable vehicles.

We love cars as much as we love driving on the Sunshine Coast! Check out our tips for the road and things to check out in the area:

Last year, the Queensland Police issued a statement about some of the most common ways that Queensland drivers were breaking traffic rules without realising it. Traffic rules can seem like a pain at times, but ultimately they are in place to keep everyone safe. In addition, knowing and following the rules will help you avoid any expensive fines. Some of the most common road rules included in the report were:

U-turns: It’s only legal to make a U-turn at a Queensland traffic light if there is signage specifically indicating it’s allowance! It is not permitted to make U-turns elsewhere if there is a single or double continuous line, or a single continuous line left of a dotted line.

Mobile phones: Most people know you can’t hold your mobile phone to your head while you’re driving, but it’s actually not legal to use your mobile phone for anything at all unless its affixed to a proper hands-free device. Learner’s and P1 licensees are not permitted to use mobile phones at all.

Staying in the left lane: If you’re driving on a road with a speed limit of 80km/hr or more, you are only permitted to drive in the right lane if you are preparing to make a turn, avoid an accident, or decongest heavy traffic.
