The average Australian vehicle lifespan is 10.1 years, with over 30% of vehicles only being on the road for less than 5 years. Interestingly enough, data tells us that in 2016 used car sales were tripled in comparison to new car sales – a record high.
The report brought forward some very interesting industry facts:
- Approximately 18.4 million registered vehicles were on Australian soil last year, which indicates a 2.4% growth in the last year
- Passenger vehicles comprise over 75% of the national fleet
- Vehicles up to 5 years of age account for the largest potion of the market at 30.5%
- Over 800,000 registered motor vehicles were scrapped between 2015 and 2016
The report also showed that 1,178,133 new vehicles were sold in Australia in 2016, with 2017 boasting a new record high of another 0.4% increase in already.
