Condition report: The car has no sunroof, leather or sat nav. Tailgate dented slightly. A few minor scratches around the body. It’s due for a service and needs a full detail inside and out.

Odometer shows – 250484 kms, Engine size 4, manual transmission, seats 5, doors 4, 4×4, diesel engine.

It was bought in Sydney 2251

    Paid cash for the car.

The spread of used 2012 Toyota Hilux cars for private sale ranges from roughly as low as $9,500 for a two-door, Ute tray Workmate, 2.7 Litre ULP engine with a 5-speed manual transmission, up to $45,000 for the SR5 4×4 with a 3.0L Diesel engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The 2012 Hilux range had a slight revamp, setting it apart from previous models. These Toyotas have new fenders, bumpers, grilles, bonnets, and even headlamps. Some variations gained newly styled wheels and the whole range now has anti-skid brakes. All variants now have either a standard inclusion of cruise control, or a limited slip-differential if its a 4×4 Workmate. Stability control and side and curtain airbags were also added to several versions, as well as a new and improved audio system and climate control feature.

With so many options for body kits, engines, and transmissions, there are nearly 40 different standard variations of the 2012 Toyota Hilux that you may be selling. The body kits include:

-The 4×2 Single Cab (in Manual or Auto, either workmate or SR variations with Cab Chassis or pick-up option, and Turbo Diesel or V6 engine). The Workmate CC TD Manual is a new variant for the 2012 range.

-The 4×2 Xtra Cab (in Auto or Manual with option for TD or V6 engines). The SR TD Manual is a new variant in the 2012 range.

-The 4×2 Double Cab (Options for Workmate/SR/SR5 with manual or auto with L4, TD or V6 engine). The SR5 V6 manual was discontinued in the 2012 range.

-The 4×4 Single Cab (In Auto or Manual as either Workmate or SR, both with Cab Chassis, option for V6 or TD engine). The Workmate CC TD Auto and Manual are both new variants in the 2012 range. The SR CC V6 auto and manual were both discontinued in this year.

-The 4×4 Xtra Cab (All manual with either SR, SR CC, or SR5 with option for TD or V6 engines). The SR5 V6 manual was discontinued, and the SR TD manual is a new variant added in the 2012 range.

    – The 4×4 Double Cab (In manual or auto as Workmate/SR/SR5, with TD or V6 engines). The Workmate TD manual and auto are both new additions to the 2012 Toyota Hilux Range.

Much of the range saw either new additions, or price decreases from as little as a $400 cut in the 4×4 double cab SR V6s, to a $5,650 cut in the 4×4 Xtra Cab SR5 TD manual. The greatest price increase was $900 in the 4×2 Single Cab SR CC V6 manual and auto, and $800 in the 4×2 double cab SR V6 manual and auto. Keep in mind that these price changes reflect new vehicles and that sales of used Toyota Hiluxs will vary greatly depending on the odometer, service history, and condition of the car at the time of sale.

2012 Holden Captiva – sell my car

    $8000

2012 Holden Captiva – sell my car
Condition report – The car has no leather or sat Nav. It needs new tyres and a full detail inside and out, a few scratches across the bumper. It’s due for a service.
Odometer reads – 120243 kms, engine size 4, automatic transmission, seats 7, doors 5, FWD, Diesel engine.
It was bought in Melbourne , VIC 3677
Paid $8,000 cash for the car

The current range of private, online sales for the 2012 Holden Captiva starts at roughly $6,000 and goes up to $19,000 depending on kilometres driven, fuel and transmission type, servicing history, number of owners and general wear and tear on the body and interior.

The Captiva was Holden’s entry into family-sized SUV vehicles. As opposed to its previous European imports and Australian made vehicles, the Captiva was built in Korea. Even so, there tend to be Holden dealerships throughout the country that have access to necessary replacement parts, so servicing shouldn’t be a big issue.

As was the case with other SUVs in the same market, the 2012 Captiva version was a move away from serious off-roading gear towards a city-safe, family-friendly car. This move was reflected in the Front-wheel-drive options as opposed to all-wheel-drive, which in turn led to a better fuel economy, also a plus for families on a budget.

With the exception of the sporty Maxx option, all Captiva versions can be fitted with a third row of seats, ideal for families with several children or friends that come along for the ride. If all seats are used, the storage is somewhat limited however. If you’re able to fold down the back seat then you’ll get 1,565 litres of boot space. Throughout the cabin you’ll also find plenty of storage compartments including two centre consoles, several drink holders, seat back storage, a floor compartment and even a glove box cooler!

Diesel options include either 2.0 or 2.2 litre, both turbo diesel, and a 3.0 litre V6. There are 2.4 and 3.6 litre V6 petrol engines as well. The 2.2 litre diesel option is the most economical of the lot.

If you’re buying or selling a Captiva then you’ll need to be aware of the common problems that occur with the used models as this will affect the price you’re able to get.:

Cam-timing belts on diesel engines need to be replaced every 90,000 kms so its important to have a record of the service history. The V6 timing chains can also stretch out and are much more expensive to replace, so be weary of an unusually noisy test drive.

If tyres are worn in an asymmetrical pattern, it may mean that the wheel alignment is off, which is somewhat difficult to align properly in the Captiva.

There have been a few other reports of miscellaneous problems such as fuel hose leaks, exhaust oxygen sensor failure, and issues with braking. If in doubt, get a mechanic to check things out.

2012 Nissan Dualis – are you selling

    $4750

2012 Nissan Dualis – are you selling
Condition  report – The car has no spare key, sunroof, leather or Sat Nav. chipped paint  across the bonnet and drivers door . It needs a detail inside and out.
Odometer shows – 122918 kms, engine size 5, Manual transmission, seats 5, doors 5, FWD, Petrol engine.
It was bought in Sydney 2761
Paid $4,750 cash for the car

The Dualis was created, and named, for serving as a family-friendly hatchback as well as it’s dual purpose as a small sized SUV four-wheel-drive. This unique vehicle mash-up was essentially the first of it’s own category here in Australia and ranked up some healthy sales in each of it’s sections.

While it has more ground clearance than most hatchbacks and handles off-roading relatively well, it doesn’t quite have the height of typical four-wheel drive. Interestingly enough, most of the actual sales made in Australia were for two-wheel-drives, indicative of the intention for most buyers. That said, some do opt for the 4WD to cross more rugged terrain in the Aussie bush. If you’re into that, allow for a good few days to get parts imported if something goes wrong. As long as the issue isn’t with the standard fit safety equipment, most mechanics should be able to do a sufficient job at repairing a Dualis. Otherwise, there are dealerships in many areas of the country as Nissan has been driving the Aussie roads for over half a century.

While this particular Nissan was made in a UK factory as opposed to the original Japanese factories, the quality appears to be on par and still decently reliable, compared to other Nissan models.

The 2012 Nissan Dualis is fitted with a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine with option for a 6-speed manual transmission or Continuously Variable Automatic transmission that has an option for manually operated ratios.

When dealing with a used vehicle, whether buying or selling a Nissan Dualis, the transmission and gear changing is one of the first things to look for. Any excessive noise, roughness, or stickiness on shifting should be inspected by someone experienced in transmission issues.

While the Dualis is marketed as somewhat of an off-road vehicle, the 2012 and later versions, especially two-wheel-drives, aren’t really designed for too much wear and tear. If the exterior looks pretty dinged up, you’ll want to make sure the car has a regular service history and proper detailing.

2012 Kia Grand Carnival – sell my car

    $7500

2012 Kia Grand Carnival – sell my car
Condition report – The car has no spare key, no sunroof, no leather and no sat nav. It has a few scrapes around the body, it  needs new tyres and it’s due for a service.
Odometer reads – 121823 kms, engine size 4, automatic transmission, seats 8, doors 5, rear wheel drive, petrol engine.
It was bought in Perth, WA 6390
Paid $7,500 cash for the car

The 2012 Kia Grand Carnival is on the private market for an asking price anywhere between $9,000 and $28,000. The prices reflect cars in relatively good condition with few previous owners, low kilometres, regular service history, spare keys, possibly extra features, tyres that are in good shape, and a recent service. Where any of these things are missing, the asking and offered price starts to come down. The Kia Grand Carnival 2012 version comes only as a “people mover” and has the option for the Platinum, S, Si, and SLi, and ascending order of retail price.  Diesel engines come as 2.2L with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the petrol option has a 3.5L, also with a 6-speed automatic transmission. There were no options for manual with the Carnival. Both options are front-wheel-drive. If you’re looking at the option between petrol and diesel, the diesel makes 93Nm more in torque, but 59kW less in power. If you’re more interested in fuel economy, the diesel engine has been rated at getting roughly 8.1L/100km while the petrol engine gets 10.9 Litres.

The diesel engine in the 2012 model is a downgrade in terms of capacity (formerly a 2.9L), but an upgrade in terms of power and torque, now making 143kW and 429Nm. The transmission also has one addition gear, up from a 5-speed, another part of the justification for an almost $2,500 price increase from the model before.

True to its name as a People Mover, and a leader in its category, the Kia Grand Carnival can seat up to eight fully grown people with the first five seats as bucket seats and the last row a bench of three spots. If owners are after more space for things rather than passengers, the middle row can be taken out for easy loading with access straight into the middle of the vehicle. Unlike some 8-seater vehicles that really cram people in, the Carnival is pleasantly roomy, no matter where you’re seated. For anyone regularly carting around several kids or friends on long car trips, a used Kia Carnival is definitely sought after.

In terms of buying or selling a used 20120 Kia Grand Carnival, it is reported that spare parts are relatively easy to find on short notice and don’t tend to break the bank when it comes to mechanical labour. Kia dealers are also abundant throughout Australia, but are concentrated in the more populated city centres, so they may be harder to access from regional areas. As with all used vehicles, it is recommended that any servicing on safety equipment is not worked on except by Kia dealerships and approved mechanics.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport Limited – sell my car

    $14500

2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport Limited – sell my car

Condition report – the car has a small crack in the windscreen, a crack in the front fender and noticeable general wear all around. The interior needs a heavy detail to remove bad odour as well as a polish on the body.

Odometer reading shows – 119087 kms, Engine size 4, manual transmission, seats 5, doors 5, four wheel drive petrol engine.

It was bought in Perth, WA 6058

    Paid cash for the car.

As a car that was designed in the Second World War as an army vehicle, it’s no surprise that the Jeep Wrangler is a rugged, off-road mobile. One of the stand-out features of the Wrangler is its fold-down windscreen and removable doors that allow drivers to experience safari-like open air driving. For more than seven decades the Wrangler hasn’t deviated far from its initial design, and loyal Jeep owners tend to love the nostalgia that comes with these cars. If you opt for the Sport version, you’ll still enjoy the same, long-loved, original features of the Jeep, but with even more kick.

In terms of used Jeep Wranglers, perhaps a few design updates wouldn’t have been such a downside. The hard-top option tends to leak and may need extra sealing done if the buyer is in a rainy area. If the previous owner hadn’t taken care of this, check for any interior water damage. The less-romantic side of Jeep maintaining the original design from 70 years ago is that you won’t be enjoying any major thrills or comfort features. There is air conditioning, electric windows, and a stereo system, but any extras you’ll have to have installed yourself. Some drivers opted for an upgrade to a touchscreen as well as a reverse camera, which is especially useful if you have a trailer you need to back in to. There have also been some reports of cracking audio and spotty voice recognition so if the stereo is really important to you then you might budget for a new, non-Jeep system.

The other very important thing to note about the basic design is the lack of an advanced safety package. While there is ABS, traction control, and electronic stability, there is only the bare minimum of front and passenger airbags while side bags are not included and are only optional for the front seats. Seatbelts don’t have pre-tensioners so heavy braking can send passengers uncomfortably forward in their seats with little resistance. The 2012 Wrangler received 4 out of 5 on the ANCAP safety rating which may seem reasonable but most cars these days hit the 5-star mark. If you’re buying or selling a used 2012 Jeep Wrangler, make sure all extra safety features are noted, especially if the car is intended for use as a family vehicle.

The standard specifications of the Wrangler sport are a 2.8L, 4-cylinder, diesel engine that makes 147 kW and 460 Nm, with a 5-speed automatic transmission. While combined consumption is quoted at 112L./100km and even as low as 8.8L/100km, you should anticipate closer to 12 or 13 litres, especially if you’re going to be driving off-road.
